Zimbabwe has taken over US food group HJ Heinz Co's 49 per cent stake in the African nation's leading cooking oil maker, the first major move in a drive by President Robert Mugabe to control foreign-owned firms.

This cannot go on much longer. Surely the country will collapse within the next year.

President Musharraf suffered a fresh blow in his bid to retain power in Pakistan today, as a Supreme Court ruling gave the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif the right to return from exile ahead of upcoming elections.

Will this be the end of Musharraf? Personally I don't think so. He is still head of the army but it's going to make his life much more difficult as the opposition movement now has someone they can all rally around.

The disclosure, which the White House had kept secret for nearly 12 months, was made in Mr Bush’s annual medical report. It also stated that he has suffered mild vertigo in recent weeks, but that he was otherwise in excellent health.

The Pentagon has lost track of 190,000 AK-47 assault rifles and pistols which were given to the Iraq security forces. Many of these weapons are now probably being used against the US forces in Iraq.

Surely this would be a fairly basic tenant of war -- don't give your weapons to the other side.
